A session on „Local Social Services in Times of Disasters and Crisis“ will be held at next year’s ISA Forum of Sociology, July 10-14, 2016 Vienna Austria (http://www.isa-sociology.org/forum-2016/rc/rc.php?n=RC34), host Research Committee 39.
The literature reveals the importance of local social services both during the aftermath of disaster and in relation to preparedness and enhancing the resilience of communities and individuals. Local social services refers to the services that the municipalities are responsible for, usually it includes social assistance and various services, often including care services. Despite the importance of such services before, during and after disasters there has been limited research on how social services relate to the system of disaster preparedness/civil defence systems and to what extend special Disaster Social Services Response Plans are implemented within social services. Thus the session welcomes papers that address how local social services are organized and implemented during times of disasters, how social services enhance resilience, planning and preparedness as well as long term recovery both among individuals and the community.
The session is a paper session, with 15 minutes scheduled for each paper, that welcomes papers addressing how local social services are organized and implemented during times of disasters, and how local social services enhance resilience and preparedness as well as long time recovery, both among individuals and the community.
Submission deadline: 30 September 2015. Abstracts of max 300 words should be submitted online through this link: http://www.isa-sociology.org/forum-2016/
