Working with children in critical situations
In this workshop we will first discuss the special reactions, understanding and needs of children during critical situations like the death of a caregiver, using case examples we will then work on how to support children best during these situations (e.g. how to coach parents to deliver death messages to children, how to support a child during farewell of a dead caregiver, etc.).
Barbara Juen is af clinical psycholigist specialized in psycho traumatology at the University of Innsbruck. Since 1999 she is the head of psychosocial support at the Austrian Red Cross. She was the coordinator of the European Network for Psychosocial support for four years. She has more then 20 years´s of experience in working with traumatised people alongside research in the field go psycho traumatology and has vast experience in doing trainings both in the academic and in the nonacademic field. Dr. Juen has been dead go the Austian Red Cross psychosocial support services since 2004 and has extensive practical experience in crisis interventions in both domestic and international crisis.
